Transcriptional Regulator of Oxidative Stress-Inducible Genes: Direct Activation by Oxidation (Storz, Tartaglia, Ames)
OxyR, a positive regulator of hydrogen peroxide-inducible genes in Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhimurium, is homologous to a family of bacterial regulatory proteins (Christman, Storz, Ames)
The OxyR promoter is induced by oxidative stress. You can cause this oxidative stress by adding hydrogen peroxide. The promoter is a positive regulator of a regulon for defenses against oxidative stress. It is a 34-kDa protein.
