The Orotidine-5'-phosphate (OMP) decarboxylase catalyzes the sixth enzymatic step in the de novo biosynthesis of pyrimidines in ''S. cerevisiae''. It converts OMP into uridine monophosphate (UMP) and capable to transform 5-FOA into the toxic 5-fluorouracil. Under the name of Ura3 it is one of the commonly used auxotrophic markers in Yeast. There exists a number of ''S. cerevisiae'' strains which are deleated for this enzyme.

Our BioBrick contains the protein coding sequence as well as the natural promoter and terminator of the gene. To avoid a transcription of genes downstream of this part, it might be usefull put a strong termintor (i.e. Adh1_term: [[Part:BBa_J63002| BBa_J63002]]) in between the parts.
