Ancestral CasA

This version of CasA is a predicted ancestral sequence. It comes from a prediction made using Pfam seed data (PF09481) as an input for PAML with Lazarus, which is used to predict sequences of a common ancestor.
This is an ancestrally predicted version of the CasA (Cse1) subgene from the CASCADE complex. CasA is responsible for PAM (protospacer adjacent motif) recognition. It works in conjunction with the rest of the CASCADE complex as a part of the CRISPR system. Together, the pieces of CASCADE work to recognize, bind to, and degrade foreign DNA. This ancestral version was predicted using the representative data from Pfam (PF09481) and PAML with the Lazarus suite.

Design considerations included making sure to use representative data from Pfam, evaluating any large gaps when compared to the starting E coli sequence, and determining whether these should be kept in the sequence or removed.
