The sequence comes from the original gene in the genomic DNA of DM4. We have taken the seuqence from uniprot.
dcmA is a gene coding for the enzyme dichloromethane dehalogenase from Methylobacterium extorquens (DM4). This enzyme is a member of the glutathione-dependent-S-transferase family and catalyses the following reaction:
DCM (dichloromethane) + 2H2O -> formaldehyde + 2 HCl
We have attached the N-terminal targeting sequence for the pdu-microcomartment to this part in order to allow for the insertion of this enzyme into the microcompartment.

The wild-type dcmA-gene has two EcoRI-restriction sites. We have therefore changed the restriction site sequences from GAATTC to GAATTT in order to make this part BioBrick compatible.
