B. subtilis
Both CwlJ and SleB are germination specific cortex hydrolases. Although SleB has a major effect for the germination, cwlJ's effect is minor. However bacillus subtilis with double mutation without cwlJ and sleB were not able germinate again (2).
To control the germination rate tightly, cwlJ and sleB genes are combined to make this device.

''B. subtilis''
''sleB'' encodes for a spore cortex-lytic enzyme. This enzyme responds germination triggered by L-alanine which is the most universal germinant for spores. It has been shown that B. subtilis mutants with inactivated ''sleB'' gene were not able to germinate (1).
Hence by regulating this gene in ''sleB'' mutant ''B. subtilis'' cells, germination rate can be contolled.
