When expressed in E. coli, this porin is localized in the outer membrane. The mutation confers a "leaky" phenotype to the bacteria, i.e. periplasmic content is released in the culture supernatant. This property is potentially useful for secreting recombinant proteins or metabolites. When expressed in E. coli strains lacking the endogenous lamB outer membrane protein, pIVm allows the bacteria to grow on oligomaltosides (tetra-, penta-, hexa- and hepta-maltose) as carbon source. false false _2561_ 30827 30827 9 false Nothing special false Patrice Soumillion igem2sbol 1 iGEM to SBOL conversion Conversion of the iGEM parts registry to SBOL2.1 Chris J.
