Description

Phenylalanine is a common chemical placed into media as food for E. coli. Phenylalanine can be converted to cinnamic acid in E. coli with the addition of this gene encoding Phenylalanine Ammonia-lyase (as done by Faulkner, et al). The sequence displayed is the initial gene from Rhodosporidium toruloides, complete with introns and exons.

Notes

The purpose of this part would be to develop cinnamic acid from natural food for E. coli. From there, if we can find the SAM:CCMT part, we could develop a cinnamon smell from E. coli merely from the cells eating their natural food.

Source

If we received such a part, it would probably be donated by Faulkner, et al. If not, the part would need to be modified to successfully express it in E. coli.
