T7 Bacteriophage Minor Capsid Protein (Large Mutant 2)

Description

This is the gene that encodes the minor capsid protein in wild type T7 bacteriophage. The major capsid protein can also be found in this gene, but it is shorter. (The minor capsid protein results from a -1 translation shift towards the end of the major capsid protein.) These two capsid proteins make up the external part of T7 bacteriophage's capsid. We mutated this gene to produce a capsid that is larger than normal.

We boiled T7 bacteriophage for 5 minutes to expose the genome and then ran PCR to obtain the minor capsid protein gene.
