Description
This part can be transformed into E. coli. When the transformants are incubated with p-coumaric acid and 50mM arabinose, they will metabolise the p-coumaric acid and secrete 4-hydroxybenzalacetone into the growth medium.
4-hydroxybenzalacetone is often referred to simply as benzalacetone.
Notes
Detectable amounts of 4-hydroxybenzalacetone were produced when 3mM p-coumaric acid was added to the transformants' growth medium. 9mM p-coumaric acid was also assayed and produced a larger amount of 4-hydroxybenzalacetone.
Beware the registry part labelled 'benzalacetone reductase'
