Description
This colicinE1 operon contains all three important genes for colicinE1 expression and release. The colE1 gene codes for the lethal colicinE1 protein. The gene for the colE1 immunity protein located on the reverse strand is responsible for the immunity of the producing host bacteria to the colicinE1 and is therefore controlled by a constitutive promoter. Expression of the kil protein leads finally to the lysis of the host bacteria and thereby to the release of the colicinE1.

Source
This colicinE1 cassette is derived from the naturally existing colicinE1 plasmid out of the E. coli strain JC411.
