Description
Cadherins are calcium-dependent cell adhesion proteins. They preferentially interact with themselves in a homophilic manner.
This part consists of the extracellular domain of human E-Cadherin, so this part has the potential to either interact with another one of this part or with the E-Cadherin of human cells.
As such, this part is an ideal mechanism to use in engineering cell to cell adhesion or adhesion to human epithelial cells.
Notes
Optimized the codon sequence for use in E. coli.
Source
This part is taken from the Uniprot database (http://www.uniprot.org/uniprot/P12830). Only the extracellular portion of the whole Human E-cadherin protein was used.
