Description
This part serves to increase the uptake of glucose by the cell. It is designed to work in conjunction with EIIA (BBa_K1508003) or the composite EIIA device (BBa_K1600001), another part of glucose uptake in E. coli. EIIBC, also known as ptsG, is the active channel for glucose uptake in E. coli as a part of the Phosphotransferase System (PTS) so this BioBrick would upregulate the uptake of glucose. While EIIA is not a transmembrane transferase protein, it plays a prominent second step in the PTS pathway (http://spin.niddk.nih.gov/clore/Structures/HPr-IIAMtl/pict.html), the first step being glucose uptake by the transmembrane protein complex EIIBC. We hypothesize that the use of EIIBC with EIIA will increase glucose upake in E. coli.
