Description
This is the GAL1 inducible promoter for use in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. It is repressed in the presence of glucose and induced in the presence of galactose. Raffinose is a neutral sugar source the neither induces nor represses the promoter. pGAL1 normally has an "all-or-nothing" response to galactose, but Christina Smolke has shown that knockout of the Gal2 gene gives pGAL1 a tunable, linear response to galactose.
