Description
SmtA metallothionein protein from E. coli can bind to heavy metals [1,2,3]. They have a tendency to bind to cationic metal ions such as cadmium, copper, arsenic, mercury, silver.This part can be used as a fusion partner to other proteins. E.g. when fused to Gfp, it can be seen by the microscope.
Notes
The sequence does not start with ATG. So if anyone wants to use it without any fusion, then ATG start codon should be added to the beginning of the sequence.Source
