Description

MtrA is a decahaem, periplasmic-protein from Shewanella oneidensis. It is part of the MtrCAB hetromeric complex that allows S oneidensis under anaerobic conditions to pass electrons generated from the respiratory chain through the, otherwise impermeable, outer membrane and donate them to soluble and insoluble redox active metal compounds ??? bridging the microbemineral interface. In other studies it has been hypothesised that MtrA is a long cylindrical protein, not much more than ten c-type haems bridged by small lengths of peptide.
