This part contains xylB from Pseudomonas putida under the control of a lac promoter. xylB is benzyl alcohol dehydrogenase (BADH) from Pseudomonas putida. BADH converts a -CH2OH group of benzyl alcohol and its derivatives into -CHOH. This is a basic part that is used in BBa_K1966002 with xylA and xylM (xylene monooxygenase, XO) to generate aromatic aldehydes from toluene derivatives.
