Description
This sequence contains a promoter followed by a "floxed" RFP gene. When exposed to cre recombinase, the RFP gene will be inverted. Therefore, if a cell fluoresces red, the RFP gene has not been inverted. If a cell does not fluoresce, the gene has been inverted. Because the two lox sites are identical, we expect inversions to occur.
Notes
It is important to note that the same gene can be inverted multiple times. Therefore, you expect only half of the cells to fluoresce at any given time.
Source
We created this part in an effort to determine how various lox sites interact.
