Description
Dispersin B (DspB) is an enzyme that degrades biofilms by catalyzing the hydrolysis of poly-??-(1,6)-linked N-acetylglucosamine bonds. These bonds exist in the extracellular polymeric substance (EPS), which acts as a polysaccharide adhesin relevant to biofilm formation and integrity in Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus epidermidis. According to primary searches, DspB effectively cleaves these bonds and impedes biofilm formation.
Notes
We designed forward and reverse primers with the appropriate standard BioBrick restriction sites (EcoRI, XbaI, SpeI, PstI) on each primer in order to put it on psb1C3.
One out of two sets of primers included a histidine tag, which would be used to isolate DspB after it is expressed.
