Description
LasR sits upstream from, and represses the promoter plasR. When LasI is transcribed and sends a small molecule to bind to LasR, this allows plasR to become active and initiate the transcription of melanin, a brown-colored pigment.

Source
LasR and plasR were taken from the Parts Registry kit. MelA was taken from the genome of Rhizobium etli.
