Description
BcsA, BcsB, BcsZ and BcsC are involved in biosynthesis of cellulose, a characteristic of the rdar morphotype. BcsA is considered to be the catalytic subunit for cellulose biosynthesis. The cellulose synthase is located in the cytoplasmic membrane with 8 to 10 predicted transmembrane domains.Besides the high homology to other processive glycosyltransferases, BcsA has been experimentally shown to bind the substrate UDP-glucose.
