Description

2-deoxystraptamine(2-DOS) is a core aglycon that is the vital to backbone formation in various aminoglycoside. This core structure can be modified to develop hybrid types of amninoglycoside antibiotics. There is a single open reading frame in the Streptomyces fradiae genome, that contains three genes neo7,neo6 and neo5. These genes work in concert to produce 2-deoxystraptamine compound. The neo6 gene encodes the enzyme called L-glutamine:2-deoxy-scyllo-inosose aminotransferase which plays vital role in the biosynthesis of the core aglycon, 2-DOS.
