Sequences BBa_M11058_sequence (Version 1)

Description

This is a single open reading frame which contains multiple genes that codes for necessary proteins in the sysnthesis of omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids. Ecosapentaenoic acid is the PUFA that is synthesized using this organism. The proteins encoded within is this gene are for polyketide synthases (PKSs), which polymerize simple fatty acids into a large variety of different products, called polyketides, by successive decarboxylating Claisen condensations. PKSs can be divided into 2 groups, modular type I PKSs consisting of one or more large multifunctional proteins and iterative type II PKSs, complexes of several monofunctional subunits. This gene is to be used in sequence with pfaB, pfaC, and pfaD. By cloning these genes into the same organism, it should be able to produce omega-3 fatty acids.

Notes

This sequence was mutated to remove a SpeI, XbaI, Pst1 restriction sites at 2337 bp, 4050 bp, and 3051 bp respectively
