Description
This gene is part of the bacteriophage M13 genome. It encodes a detergent-resistant, barrel-shaped pore on the bacterial outer membrane through with the assembled phage emerges. The inner cavity of the p4 pore is approx 8 nm in diameter. The N-terminal third to p4 extends into the periplasm and is trypsin resistant. The p1/p11 multimer (5 or 6 copies of each) is thought to interact with this portion of the pore.
Notes
The gIV RBS and start codon are within the gI/gXI coding sequence. The gIV stop codon is within the M13 origin of replication.
