Description
In A. Thaliana, the CAD1 gene codes for the production of Phytochelatin Synthase, a protein responsible for producing phytochelatin, which is responsible for chelating heavy metal ions, thus preventing toxicity. It is especially important for plants growing in high-cadmium soils. When paired with an appropriate sensor, this part will create phytochelatin synthase, which in turn creates phytochelatin.
Notes
In this part, the CAD1 gene has been stripped of all introns in order to save space and resources. Furthermore, the sequence was optimized for expression in S. Cerevisiae cells based on prevalent codons.
Source
The original source was the CAD1 gene found in A. Thaliana.
