Description
This is a coding sequence for the protein alkS. AlkS acts as a transcription activator for the alkB promoter. In the presence of alkanes and also dicycloproplylketone (DCPK), alkS becomes activated and can bind to the alkB operator sequence, allowing for transcription to occur or generating a PoPS signal.
Notes
The part was optimized for E. coli. Approximately 75% of the codons were optimized so as not to run out of even the amino acids that are most abundant in E. coli. This part was synthesized for our experiment by DNA 2.0.
Source
Pseudomonas putida is the bacteria from which this sequence was originally taken (as listed as part Q9L4M7.1 on GenBank). The DNA sequence was modified and optimized for expression in E. coli using the codon optimization calculator from encorebio.com.
