Description
CiaH is a histidine kinase calcium sensor from gram-positive bacteria Streptococcus mutans. CiaH works in conjunction with CiaX (an extracellular calcium-binding peptide) and CiaR (an intracellular reporting molecule that acts as an activator) to control expression of the cia operon. When extracellular calcium concentrations are low, CiaH (activated by unbound CiaX) phosphorylates CiaR, enabling CiaR to act as an activator for the cia operon.
