Description
NS1-binding protein (NS1-BP) is a novel human protein that has been shown to be associated with cellular splicing apparatus. Specifically, NS1-BP is located in the nuclei of cells and is believed to promote pre-mRNA splicing. NS1 nonstructural protein from influenza A virus alters the function of NS1-BP and also inhibits pre-mRNA splicing. The NS1-BP mediates the splicing-inhibitory actions of NS1 by binding to it. For more general experimental purposes, NS1-BP could be used to detect infection by influenza A virus and more specifically, the presence of functional NS1 protein from an influenza A virus.
