Description

This composite part functionally codes for the selective nickel transporter nixA as well as the metallothioniein CRS5 fused to glutathione-S-transferase. This composite part should act to transport nickel ions into the engineered cell where they will be sequestered by the metallothionein allowing for Ni²⁺ removal from contaminated water.

Notes

Expression of GST-CRS5 is controlled by the bacteriophage T7 promoter, so part should be combined with a host organism expressing T7 polymerase (such as E. coli BL21-AI
