Description

In enzymology, a benzoylformate decarboxylase (EC 4.1.1.7) is an enzyme that catalyzes the following chemical reaction:

benzoylformate + H+ ⇌ benzaldehyde + CO2

However, in our project we get an engineered benzoylformate decarboxylase, which could catalyze formaldehyde into Glycolaldehyde and Dihydroxyacetone, from CAS. If you use it to catalyze reaction in vivo, It needs one cofactor, thiamin diphosphate.

Notes

Benzoylformate decarboxylase is flanked by prefix and suffix provided by iGEM.

Source

Benzoylformate decarboxylase(BFD) comes from Pseudomonas putida, which could cleave carbon-carbon bonds.
