Description
Para (PBAD) is an E. coli promoter that is induced by the presence of arabinose in the medium. In this part it is fused with lacZ which encodes β-galactosidase (an intracellular enzyme that cleaves the disaccharide lactose into glucose and galactose). This fusion allows us to check if Para works correctly using β-galactoassays.
