Description
Colicin H protein is produced by Escherichia coli CA 58 strain. Its specific activity making holes in bacterial membranes need the presence of Fiu protein in the outer membrane of target cells in order to recognize them, and use the TonB/ExbB, D translocation route to slip in the cell and lyse it, being lethal for related strains of E. coli.
To disinfect the contaminated water in our project, we used Colicin H to kill pathogen cells (in our case they were E. coli DH5alpha strain) by membrane lysis.
