Description
OmpC is normally found in the outer membrane of E. coli. Coding for a Cadmium binding protein was inserted on the 9th hydrophylic loop which protrudes out of the cell.
The sequence
This biobrick would be useful for the binding cadmium to the cell wall of E. coli. It could be applicable to water treatment applications.
Notes
The 9th hydrophylic loop protrudes out of the cell and normally contains a PstI RE site just after the loop exits the outer membrane lipid layer.
The PstI site 886bp in to the ompC sequence and it is in the 9th loop.
To make this biobrick the the PstI site at 638bp and the EcoRI site at 388bp of the gene was inactivated by mutation during synthesis.
Source
The source of the ompC gene is:
Escherichia coli SMS-3-5
