Description

This is an atrazine biosensor that reflects the presence of atrazine through GFP fluorescence. A UTR in the riboswitch causes excessive base pairing in the RNA transcript, folding the RNA such that the RBS is not normally exposed. When atrazine is present, it binds to the aptamer sequence and alters the shape of the RNA to allow binding at the RBS, thus allowing translation of a GFP sequence following the RBS. The level of GFP expression corresponds to the level of atrazine in the surrounding environment.
