Description
Tests cellular density of asparate-secreting cells needed to induce quorum threshold response. Sender cells are nonmotile and have a trigger controlling the AspA attractant sender and CFP reporter indicating transcription of aspA. Receiver cells have a constitutive promoter controlling YFP reporter. Chemotaxis can be observed by the movement of the YFP-marked receiver cells. Quorum threshold is detected when the LacZ reporter is observed.
Notes
Sender cells are the nonchemotactic E. coli strain RP5232. Receiver cells are wildtype E. coli. This test combines the chemotaxis response test with the quorum threshold test.
