Part of the thresholding device (works with j07036, j07038/j07039/j07040).
This encodes the reporter gene that is regulated by the cI repressor (coded by j07036). The amount of cI itself is regulated by j07038/39/40 that code for antisense mRNA to the cI transcript, and hence repress translation of cI (and activate j07037)
